Rethinking Intelligence: A NeuroAI (RIANS) Rethinking Intelligence: A NeuroAI Symposium (RIANS)

Purpose

This international symposium was organized in response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence and neuroscience, as well as the growing fragmentation of research topics and communities. Through substantive exchange between international scholars and domestic research teams, the symposium aimed to establish an interdisciplinary Brain × AI dialogue platform. The program focused on core NeuroAI topics, including the neural mechanisms underlying subjective experiences such as pain and emotion, their relationship with neural computation and embodied intelligence, and how computational models of reinforcement learning and decision-making correspond to brain dynamics. It further explored how biological intelligence and artificial intelligence can mutually inspire mechanisms of learning and reasoning.

The symposium invited representative international scholars from the United States, Japan, and Korea, while integrating domestic research strengths. Through plenary talks, project speaker presentations, keynote lectures, and poster sessions, the event created a program structure with both research depth and broad exchange. It provided a platform for international research trends and diverse perspectives, helping participants understand different research pathways and future directions in NeuroAI. The symposium also promoted exchange among researchers, supported the development of young research talent, and served as an important reference for future academic research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and related research program planning.

Outcomes and Impact

The symposium deepened exchange among domestic and international NeuroAI research communities. Through academic dialogue across different research approaches and backgrounds, it enhanced understanding of core issues such as the neural mechanisms of subjective experiences including pain and emotion, neural computation, embodied perception, and computational models related to decision-making and learning. It also contributed to a more systematic basis for discussion between artificial intelligence and neuroscience.

Through research presentations and discussions among international and Taiwanese scholars, the symposium helped the domestic research community identify important trends and frontier topics in NeuroAI. It broadened understanding of future research directions and possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration, while serving as an academic reference for future research program development, international exchange, and talent cultivation.
